Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

March 17 is the day people around the world celebrate Irish culture.

Did you know that four-leaf clovers are were considered by the ancient Celtics to be lucky charms? I wrote a post entitled Get Some Luck O’ the Irish over at Romancing the Genres. In it I explain more about the shamrock as a symbol of luck.

I credit my few drops of Irish blood for the fact that I’ve always had a bit of luck with jobs, and hence income. In my long career as a professional civil engineer, I was never (involuntarily) unemployed. In this day and age that’s practically a miracle! Money does seem to flow to my son when he needs it.

Lucky Leprechauns

Maybe we have leprechauns as our allies? Leprechauns—mythic Irish fairies—play tricks and hoard treasure. According to Mirror, a UK website,  if you catch a leprechaun, it must lead you to its treasure.

Film-lovers, why not celebrate March 17 by watching a leprechaun-themed movie? Here are four family-friendly suggestions:

The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns

Finian’s Rainbow

The Luck of the Irish (2001)

The Luck of the Irish (1948)

Wishing you much luck!

Madelle
