Tanks for the Memories

Diamond Hunter‘s heroine, Petra Paris, has a tense “near death experience”. In my October 2014 guest post on Romancing the Genres I describe the inspiration for the novel’s crisis.

In the early 1980s I was a civil engineer responsible for managing the construction of fuel storage facilities in remote Arctic communities, accessible only by air, by ocean during the short summer, or by ice road in winter.

This is one of “my” tank farm projects. It’s located in the tiny hamlet of Paulatuk, Northwest Territories on the mainland coast of the Arctic Ocean.  The vertical tanks contain heating oil and aviation fuel respectively.
